ABC15's Let Joe Know needs Lawyers
The State Bar is teaming up with ABC15 and consumer reporter Joe Ducey to offer a live Let Joe Know legal phone bank Monday, December 12. We need volunteers to take viewers' phone calls about taxes. The event runs 5 - 7 p.m. This is fun way to help people out with legal questions. Please email Fabiola.Perez@staff.azbar.org to volunteer.
Wills for Heroes
How would you like to help a hero? Born out of the destruction of 9/11, this program provides free estate planning legal services to first responders in Arizona. The State Bar, in partnership with the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education oversees the program. This is a pro bono opportunity for someone who likes to help in person. Training is provided.
Events are ongoing and monthly! Next event: December 10 Maricopa County Sheriff's Office
The State Bar is often asked to help find speakers for events or provide experts on legal matters for the media. We are also creating quick educational videos for use on our website and in social media and need well-spoken legal types, both English and Spanish speakers! Participating is a great way to establish your expertise in a practice area and leadership in the profession. If you're interested in being a member of our Speakers' Bureau, please email Public Relations Manager Carol Rose at Carol.Rose@staff.azbar.org.
The Modest Means Project provides low-cost legal assistance to people who don't qualify for free legal help but can't afford to hire an attorney at standard rates. MMP attorneys assist individuals in a one-hour meeting for a fee of $75, offering brief advice or unbundled services. This is a great opportunity for:
- Attorneys exploring new practice areas
- Newer lawyers looking to gain experience in a practice area and build a client base
- Senior lawyers who are winding down their practices and don't have the same financial pressures as those in an earlier phase of their careers.
For details on legal issues addressed through the project and information on applying, check out the Modest Means Project page.
